Abstract
Interviewed and prepared for publication by Victor Martinovich
Anatoly Mikhailov, the founder and long-time rector of
EHU, addresses the lessons of the history of the University and
its prospects. The author takes special notice of the problems
of contemporary knowledge in humanities and social sciences
and ways of its study by students. Education in humanities and
social sciences is in a deep crisis, and in order to overcome it we
must look for new forms of its development that would take into
account the tragic experience of the search for and realization
of supposedly objective social truths in the last centuries. What
should the language of humanities and social sciences be in a
world dominated by technology and growing digitalization?
Perhaps the answer to this question can be the reference to the
great works of literature and art in the educational process.
