Author Guidelines

The journal accepts materials in the form of original articles (up to 80 000 characters), reviews (up to 20 000 characters) and translated works (providing author license only), which correspond to the thematic scope of the journal, as well as materials for special calls published on journals.ehu.lt web-site.

 

Submissions can be provided in English, Belarusian and Russian.

 

Materials formatted in accordance with the requirements are sent to the Editorial Board through the web-site of the Topos Journal. To make your submission, please, register at the web-site of the Topos Journal here http://journals.ehu.lt/index.php/topos/login and submit your article via the “Make a Submission” button. The Editorial Board requires that two versions of the submission be sent: the full text (please, name your document as follows: NameSurname_Topos_SubmissionYYYY, instead of YYYY, indicate the current year), and the anonymized text for double-blind peer-review (please, name your document as follows: ShortTitle_Topos_SubmissionYYYY). 
The processing time for articles is up to 4 months.

Materials structure

1. Title of the article in the source language (if the article is not in English, please indicate the title in English on the next line after the original title).
2. Author’s full name (if the name is not in English, please indicate the name in English on the next line after the original name).
3. Information on the author: academic degree, position, affiliation, postal address (in English), e-mail, ORCid.
4. Abstract (300 words; structured as the original article; the object, main tasks, methodology and conclusions highlighted) and key words (5-7 terms) – in English.
5. Original text of the article (all comments be made in footnotes; illustrations, charts and tables be placed in the text).
6. Literature List with references in all languages used (all references be made in the original language).

 

Text requirements

• Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1,5 line spacing.
• 2 cm margins each side, 1 cm indentation, fully justified.
• Title of the article - 12 pt, normal, all caps, semibold, centered.
• Subtitles of the article should be separated from the title with a colon, no brackets or full stops in titles.
• Subsections of the article - 12 pt, normal, centered, please do not use semibold and italics.
• Pages numbered on top right.
• Author’s full name - 12 pt, normal, centered, no using of semibold and italics.
• Information on the author - left align.
• Abstract, key words, text, literature and references lists – fully justified.

 

Materials formatting requirements

• Citations in guillemets (French or duck-foot quotes «…»). Use English double quotes inside citation extracts («“…” …»).
• Citations longer than 3 lines are formatted as callouts: a separate paragraph, left indentation, 10 pt.
• The words "year(s)" and "century(s)" are written in full, without abbreviations.
• Use italics to highlight most important terms, no bold script or underlining.
• Words and expressions in the original language, clarifying the translation, are indicated in brackets with a normal font (no italics). For example: the life world (German: Lebenswelt).
• When using foreign-language quotations in articles in Russian/Belarusian, place the translation of the quotation in Russian/Belarusian in the text, while the quotation in the original language to be  placed in a footnote.
• No hyphens in place of dashes (for dates, pages, etc.), please.

 

 

Citation requirements

• Citations within the text are placed in parentheses: (Toulmin, 1992, p. 65), (Heidegger, 1997, p. 320).
• Use «and» or «&» to cite the text by two authors: (Josephson and Kasperski, 2014, p. 39), (Josephson & Kasperski, 2014, p. 39).
• Use only the first surname and «et al.» to cite the text by three and more authors: (Gapova et al., 2002).
• To cite a string of authors, list authors alphabetically and separate them with a semicolon: (Keynes, 1930; Marx, 1867; Simmel, 1900).
• To cite a source with no author, use the title of the source: (Research Devision, 2017).
• When an author published several works during the year, add letter indicators according to your References order: (Bauman, 1992a).

 

Illustrations requirements

If the submission includes visual materials, the list of illustrations to be sent in a separate document (please, name your document as follows: NameSurname_Topos_SubmissionYYYY_Pics). We accept the following file formats: .rtf, .doc, .docx (for text materials, charts and tables) and .tiff, .jpg, .png (for illustrations).

 

Tables requirements

Tables are placed with center alignment. The name of the table is placed on top of the table, center alignment, 10 pt, no dot is placed after the name. The data in the table - 10 pt, justified.

References requirements

• References section is placed at the end of the article and is formatted without being split into language blocks.
• Artworks, archival sources and other materials are indicated in page-by-page footnotes and are given in a separate list (Sources).
• References are listed alphabetically.
• For books and studies the following must be specified: author’s surname and initials, the complete title of the book or study, the place and year of publication.
• For articles in journals and compilations: author’s surname and initials, the complete title of the article, the title of a journal or a compilation; the year, issue number and page of publication.
• Sources and literature presented in Cyrillic should be assisted with transliteration into Latin.
• The website (https://www.translitteration.com/transliteration/en/belarusian/bgn-pcgn/) is used to transliterate sources in Cyrillic into Latin along with BGN/PCGN system, do not use diacritics.
• The transliterated version of the title of an article is indicated in parentheses and is located under the title in the original language in the References section (refer to examples of literature design below).
• The transliteration of authors' surnames should correspond to those adopted in their earlier publications (for correct indexing in the databases of scientific publications).
• The names of countries, cities, organizations, etc. are indicated in the versions accepted in English sources (for example: "Беларусь" is transliterated as "Belarus", but not as "Byelarus").
• The references contained in the bibliographic description (for example, "edited by") when transliterated are given in English (for example, "ed.").
• The names of publishing houses are not indicated in transliterated sources.
• The original language is indicated after the dash in transliterations, for example: – In Russ. or – In Bel. or  – In Ukr.

 

Books and Studies requirements

1. Author’s surname and initials: Readings, B. or Abdiralovič, I. (if there are several authors, then the surnames and initials are separated by a comma and sign &: Kūle, M., Muižniece, L. & Vēgners, U.).
2. The year of publication in round brackets: (1997) or (2001) or, if it is important to indicate the year of the first edition, square brackets are placed inside round brackets (1993 [1921]).
3. The title of the book in italics: The University in Ruins; or Advechnym shljaham. Dasledzіny belarusskago svetagljadu in transliterated version.
4. City full name (omitted for publishing group uniting several cities): Cambridge or Kiev or Mensk.
5. Publisher full name: Harvard University Press or LTD or Navuka i tekhnika.
6. The transliterated version is indicated in round brackets. The names of publishing houses are not indicated; "and" and "edited by" remarks are indicated in English - &, "ed."; the original language is indicated after the dash, for example: – In Russ. or – In Bel. or  – In Ukr.

4. Edition reference – In:
5. Surname and initials of the editor(s), editor's marks as ‘ed.’ in round brackets after the last surname and first name: In: Hall, S., Held, D. & McGrew, T. (ed.).
6. The title of the book or collection in italics: Modernity and Its Futures: Understanding Modern Societies; or Filosofskie pokoleniya.
7. City full name (omitted for publishing group uniting several cities): Cambridge or Kiev or Mensk.

3. Article title in normal font (without italics): On the Origins, Stages and Prospects of the Kazakh Philosophy, or  Suverennaya vlast i etika nenasilija: strukturnye osnovanija grazhdanskoi mobilizacii v Belarusi.
4. The title of periodical in italics (for the transliterated version it is desirable to use the registered English title of the journal): Journal of Law, or Fіlosofs'ka dumka.

Other Requirements

1. Use «&» between two last authors’ surnames when the text has two or more authors, other surnames be separated with a comma; place surnames in alphabetical order: Trippl, M., Sinozic, T. & Smith, H.
2. For edited books, use the editor's surname and «ed.» instead of author’s name: Hall, S., ed.
3. For sources with no author, use the publisher of the source instead of author’s name: EHU (2017).
4. Capitalize Each Word in the titles of books in English and use Sentence case for other purposes.
5. Add letter indicators when an author published several works during the same year: 1992a, 1992b, etc.
6. Include the edition after the title of the text if needed: 2nd ed, 6th ed., etc.
7. Non-Russian and non-Belarusian authors’ surnames are listed in the original instead of transliterated versions: Heidegger instead of Khaidegger, M., Marx instead of Marks, etc.
