Exaggerated Requests by the Possible. Relation between Scientific Research and Democratic Decision
Article
Abstract
[In Russian]
The sciences are not in a position to answer the question as to
whether the knowledge attained in them is worth knowing. Scientific research constantly expands its areas and tasks without ever
asking a question about whether its research is truly valuable. The
sciences direct their attention indiscriminately to whatever is at all
knowable. Everything is equally worth exploring. The thesis that
only philosophy saves the sciences from getting lost in what is not
worth knowing raises several questions. What enables philosophy
to play such a role? Can philosophy tell the sciences what is worth
knowing and what is not?
