Stile des Philosophierens. Zur Phänomenologie Maurice Merleau-Pontys
Article
Abstract
[In German]
In this paper attention is paid to Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s style of practising philosophy. Its focus is on his distinctive interest in other disciplines and sciences, the arts and politics. I am arguing that his interest does not only respond to the historical crisis of the sciences. Rather, it is based on the assumption that sciences, arts and politics have something in common, a sensible experience of the world. In addition, I am arguing that as a consequence of his interdisciplinary engagement, Merleau-Ponty has learned to refuse the idea of philosophical universality conceived as the priority of philosophy over other sciences. This leads me to the conclusion that Merleau-Ponty’s open-minded phenomenology represents a remarkable scientific ethos which has not lost its attractiveness for our times.
