Narrative Identity in Culture of Islam
Article
Abstract
[In Russian]
The article conceptualizes the notion of narrative identity as the identity connected with the reliance on key texts of this or that culture. The author analyzes Islamic culture as a vivid example of demonstration of collective textual identity that leads to certain social consequences, in particular, to division of Moslems into various sects, groups and movements that interpret the Koran and Sunnah in different ways. The author considers narrative identity in Islam not only as a result of the integrated set of social practices but also as a set of hermeneutic procedures, ideological manifestations, as well as normative and regulatory mechanisms.
