In Search of New Instruments of Political Cinematography
Article
Abstract
[In Russian]
The article examines political cinema that can serve as means for the search of new political subjectivity and new visual language to describe the cultural Other. Political cinema uses self- reflexive tactics of working with the image on the level of production of meaning (semiotic surface of the image) and on the level of political economy of the image (production and distribution of the image). The manifestations of political cinema can be traced in different types of cinematic practices, united by specific tactics and tools (special editing, special use of narratives, articulation of author’s position, problematization of gaze, etc.). Examples can be found in slow and remodernist cinema, activist and critical art, tactical media, different forms of video art and feminist cinema criticism.
