The Paradigm of the Visual in the «Wolf Dream»
Article
Abstract
[In Russian]
The author analyses the paradigm of the visual as it appears
in the central dream of Freund’s famous patient known as the
Wolf Man. !e analysis is based on two moments emphasized
by the dreamer himself: the intent gaze of the wolves where vision
is not dominated by the visible, thus referring to Lacanian
optics which makes a distinction between the eye and the gaze –
and their complete stillness, demonstrating a special type of the
visual not inherent in a simple movement. !e text explores the
particular ways of representing a visual object which troubles the
vision through the experience of anguish in its di#erent forms.
!e departing point is Lacanian idea that a work of art is always
meant to encircle the Freudian !ing.
